“Mother is an authentic film, raw and tender at the same time, inspired by the real story of a Bulgarian woman and her struggle to turn her trauma of not being able to have children of her own – into a triumph of a different kind of “parenting”.

Elena, in love with her job as a theatre director, was 32 years old when she realized she couldn’t have children. Faced with the choice of trying to conceive in vitro with her beloved husband, the conductor Leon Meyer, or adapting the theatre programme that transforms the lives of orphans in far-away Africa, Elena will reinvent the word ‘mother’. Inspired by a true story.

Zornitsa Sofia is a Master of Fine Arts, majoring in painting. She has written, directed, and produced four feature films, two documentaries, and directed seven television series, a theatrical production, and an opera.
