The deadline for applying for the BECA Photo Award – the first photography competition organized by BECA | Before Creating Academy ended on May 31, 2021.
Although it was focused entirely on the Bulgarian public and applications were accepted only from Bulgaria, the interest from foreign photographers was huge.
BECA Photo Award is one of the largest photography competitions that have been organized in our country and the application was solid from the very beginning. Photographers had the opportunity to choose the themes of their photographic stories, and this gave the opportunity to create a variety of conceptual photographic series.
The jury of the competition Anastasia Taylor-Lind (Great Britain), Judith Prat (Spain), Raquel Benito (Spain), Nadezhda Chipeva (Bulgaria), Eduardo Momeñe (Spain), Camilo Racana (France), Vladimir Vassilev (Bulgaria) and Mohammed Salem (Palestine) will select the best three out of hundreds of applicants. Despite the solid participation of foreign authors, they will not be able to take part, as the competition aims to put Bulgaria on the map of the world as a place where we work on the development of young authors and where quality photography takes place worldwide.
The initiative was a great success and the winner is eagerly awaited. He will receive a cash prize of BGN 2,000, an opportunity for a solo exhibition, as well as a scholarship to study at the Academy worth BGN 560.
The main partner of the initiative is the internationally renowned Picter platform, which provided the conveniences of its platform, as well as the Photosynthesis store, which contributed to the prize fund.
The organizers believe that this is just the beginning of a long series of initiatives undertaken by BECA | Before Creating Academy, as a chance and incentive for young Bulgarian photographers who want to go beyond the borders of the country. “For them, this competition, as well as the training at the Academy, are fantastic opportunities that they touch to make a solid start and develop their talent. There are no limits. And we try to convey the charge of this thinking to others who have set out on this path.
The possibilities before us are limitless, as long as we look at them with the right eyes. What a more appropriate attitude, if not for photographers. We are happy that we had the opportunity to organize such a large-scale competition and that we received this interest. There is still a lot to be done for the development of photography in our country and we will actively participate in the future. The academy and the competition are just the beginning, ”said the team that organized the BECA Photo Award.
The 10 finalists will be announced on June 21 and will be awarded a certificate of participation. From June 22 to the end of the month – Honorable Mentions of all foreigners, and second and third place, as well as the big winner, will be announced on June 30.
