The Open Arts Foundation will present the first event of the Spring Collectors Forum 2021 spring program, which will take place online on March 27, 2021.

The event will bring together for the first time in one place and in a joint conversation representative of the most active Bulgarian galleries for contemporary art, as well as the youngest spaces for art. This panel discussion with Bulgarian gallery owners is dedicated to the challenges facing galleries before and during the pandemic. The conversation will introduce us to the state of the galleries and how they adapt to this rapidly changing situation. It will give us examples of good practices, forecasts for the future and development strategies. The conversation will be conducted in Bulgarian.

In 2021, in a post-pandemic situation of an art system in crisis, Forum Collectors undertakes to expand its traditional format at the thematic, structural and temporal level, followed by the intention to support the adaptation of participants in the art scene in Bulgaria. the other in the micro-community, the unification and sharing of problems and solutions is a way out of the present and a way to the future, Forum Collectors intends to create a common environment of sharing and visibility that provide panorama, possible guidelines and prerequisites for future cooperation. In addition to this new line, oriented towards the micro-community, Forum Collectors continues its traditional program, realizing international exchange and introducing international collecting practices.

Due to the anti-pandemic measures, the spring program of Forum Collectors will be implemented online.

 

MORE ABOUT THE PARTICIPANTS

 

Rositsa Getsova is a visual artist. Since 2007 she has been the art director and owner of the Arosita Gallery, curator of exhibitions and events. She has organized and realized over 280 solo exhibitions in the gallery. She is the organizer of the “International Glass Festival – Sofia” (2010-2016). The festival is held every two years in Sofia.

Arosita Gallery was opened in 1990 in Sofia. The gallery presents a wide range of artists, gives a chance to anyone who has an interesting idea to make it happen. The gallery also offers educational art programs and supports various experimental art projects. In 2013, the Arosita Gallery addressed the public by creating a new street space for contemporary art – Stick Place.

 

Vladimir Iliev is a collector, art manager, co-founder, chairman of the Association of Art Dealers and owner of Gallery +359.

Gallery +359 was founded in 2017 in Sofia and is located in the building of the restored Water Tower, built in 1929 in Lozenets. Today, this historic landmark is a space for contemporary art. The gallery’s program is built on several ongoing projects: “Absence Formatting”, “Intersection Point”, “Radius”, “Ecosystem” and explores a wide range of ideas and strategies in contemporary art. The gallery also implements a Resident Program, which offers a working stay of contemporary visual artists, in order to create site-specific installations for the space of the Water Tower.

 

Maria Vasileva is an art critic, founder and owner of Struktura Gallery. Maria Vasileva is one of the founders of the Institute of Contemporary Art – Sofia. Curator of the group “March 8”. Long-term Chief Curator of the Sofia City Art Gallery. Initiator of the BASE Award for Contemporary Art. Founder of the Young Painter Award of the Edmond Demirdjian Foundation. Curator of exhibitions with Bulgarian and international participation, both in the country and abroad. Author of books and articles in catalogs, magazines and newspapers.

Structura Gallery was founded in 2017 and is a space for exhibitions and events that present contemporary art. Structura supports the art scene through local and international projects and deals with discovering new artistic positions, identifying artistic movements and assessing the development of artists. It publishes books and catalogs, organizes talks with artists and participates in exhibitions such as Art Paris, Art Rotterdam, viennacontemporary. 

 

Desislava Zafirova is a gallery owner and curator, founder and owner of ONE gallery – Sofia. In 2000, she founded the Triadis Gallery, initially as a virtual gallery for contemporary art, which in 2011 was transformed into the Yuzina Gallery. She organized and produced the project “With Respect to the Driving Forces” by the author Georgi Donov, which remains in the sculpture park of the National Art Gallery. Organizes numerous exhibitions and participations in international exhibitions such as; Istanbul Contemporary, Cosmoscow, Saatchi and Saatchi, London, Art Expo. New York. She was the director of the Trakia Foundation from 2004 to 2011.

ONE gallery opened in 2015 in the atrium of Serdika offices, and in 2017 the gallery opened another location in the building of the former Military Printing House. Since the creation of the gallery, its program has been entirely focused on contemporary art. The main goal of ONE Gallery is to present socially engaged art, free from censorship. The gallery team provides a public platform for both established names and young artists. The gallery also participates in international art exhibitions such as Contemporary Istanbul, Istanbul and COSMOSCOW, Moscow. 

 

Eli Sotirova is the founder of the space for art and shared work KO-OP (comes from Kooperativ).

KO-OP is the space for art and shared work, founded in 2019. Its main focus is on contemporary creative practices, including photography, graphics, illustration, painting and more. Supports the local art scene by showing local and foreign artists in Bulgaria. Independent publications can be found in the space, including art and photo books and zines. Beyond that, the educational element is strongly embedded in the program of KO-OP. Accompanying events such as talks, workshops and gallery tours are often organized at the exhibitions. 

 

Rosen Uzunov is the founder and owner of Little Bird Place Gallery. Doctor by education, until recently – manager of high international positions in the pharmaceutical sector, an avid nature lover, amateur photographer.

Little Bird Place was founded in 2019 in Sofia and has a specific thematic focus – modern and contemporary art dedicated to nature, the biological world and ecology. The place is not a conventional gallery space, it offers a cozy and aesthetically close to nature and at the same time urban environment. The gallery works with curators, makes various audio-visual products related to the topics it focuses on. The gallery provides the opportunity for young Bulgarian contemporary artists to create within two weeks in the art residence LITTLE BIRD ARTIST RESIDENCY in the village of Leshten. 

 

Veselina Sarieva is an author, art manager, gallery owner, curator, art consultant. She deals with contemporary art, literature, urban development, spatial development. She co-founded with Katrin Sarieva a cluster of organizations connected in a common ecosystem: Sariev Gallery, Plovdiv since 2004, Open Arts Foundation since 2007, artnewscafe, Plovdiv – cafe and community center since 2008 and an open mobile art stage and culture – FLUCA from 2016. Famous projects created and developed by Sarieva are the Festival “Night of Museums and Galleries” (2005-2019); Educational platform “Introduction to Contemporary Art” (since 2011); “Focus: Bulgaria” at viennacontemporary 2015; The portal www.OpenArtFiles.bg; Artnewscafe newsletter (since 2008).

Sariev Gallery represents key Bulgarian artists from different generations, and most of them are the main gallery. Through its Re-discovery programs, BACKGROUND: Young Authors, Portfolio Day Gallery discovers, rediscovers and develops artists. Sariev creates his own satellite spaces (project space, studio), as well as realizes them in the urban environment and in cooperation with other organizations in the country and abroad. It publishes books, catalogs, multiples. It creates an own program but invites external curators for specific exhibitions. It regularly participates in exhibitions such as Liste, Basel, Art Cologne, Art Brussels, Artissima, Turin, viennacontemporary, Istanul Contemporary, Art Rotterdam, Shanghai Contemporary, Art-O-Ramma, Marseilles and others. It advises the creation of several private collections, partners with corporate collections in the country and abroad and has experience in cooperation with international museums and institutions. The gallery is part of FEAGA – Federation of European Art Galleries Association.
