Bulgarian artist Maya Docheva will celebrate her 70th anniversary with an exhibition of the most significant paintings in her personal collection, painted from 1975 to the present day.

The exhibition will open on June 9 at 18:00 in the capital’s gallery “Shipka 6” and will include works from all periods in her work.

In the last 46 years Maya Docheva has held numerous exhibitions both in Bulgaria and in Poland, Czechoslovakia (before 1989), Italy, Austria, Japan, Kuwait, Germany, Spain, USA, England, Israel, but the paintings presented now are part of private collections and galleries in Bulgaria and abroad. Therefore, on the occasion of her 70th birthday, she decided to show her favorite works, which she kept for herself.

Few people know that over the years the artist has written poetry and for the first time several of her poems will complement the works of art on the walls of “Shipka 6”.

Maya Docheva’s bright landscapes stand out with gentle impressionism and remind the city man of the beauty of nature and the magical charm of the seasons. She herself admits: “My philosophy as an artist is that the canvas should not only be colored and radiant, but to affirm… When I talk about the earth, it is like the mother to me. And the mother is a concept directly related to the swing. The earth is truly the cradle of humanity, because here we are born, mature, (or not) and move forward (or backward). I hope we don’t destroy it, because that’s how we destroy our future and that of our children. “
