Over 3,500 projects in the field of culture have received funding in 2020 from Sofia Municipality. More than 38,000 artists took part in them, and the audience was 915,000 people, according to their organizers. This is indicated by the data in the report on the activities in the field of culture of the Sofia Municipality. In addition to an overview of the events in the digital document, which anyone knowing Bulgarian can read on, information is collected on all anti-crisis measures and support provided to artists and places of culture in Sofia in the first year, marked by the global pandemic of COVID-19 . The Sofia Municipality was the first institution in the country to respond to the challenges facing the creative sector, and a month after the declaration of a state of emergency in Bulgaria, the Solidarity in Culture initiative was launched to support independent artists and cultural venues. A total of 232 projects were supported under it with a budget of BGN 634,000. Under the other, created in response to COVID-19, the Crisis as an Opportunity program, 32 projects were supported. The analysis also includes comments from artists, representatives of national and independent cultural institutes, event organizers, members of the creative council of the Sofia Culture Program. All funding mechanisms with which the Sofia Municipality supports artists, cultural operators and cultural venues in Sofia are presented, as well as the public assessment through a survey of “Alpha Research”, conducted in 2020 among the residents of the capital.
