Sofia Municipality Program for Art Installations in Urban Environment Expands to the Outskirts of the City

After the great interest in the first edition of the program “Outside” and the interactive installation “One Man” by Venelin Shurelov, the expansion of the scope of the program to the outskirts of the city is being discussed. The proposal of the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Science and Cultural Diversity Malina Edreva and the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Municipality Assoc. Prof. Dr. Todor Chobanov is to create a am expansion to the program called “Open”. 

Leading experts in the field of visual arts and art in the public environment took part in the preparation of the rules and the content scope of the new direction. It will financially support the realization of new works in peripheral, atypical or poorly developed as a field of art places in the city. The possible locations will be determined on an annual basis at the suggestion of the Expert-Art Council to the Mayor of Sofia Municipality in partnership with the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning. Up to two projects selected by an independent jury will be able to receive a maximum individual funding of BGN 17,000 and be exhibited for no more than a year. The “Open” direction of the “Outside” program will also help young authors, as well as permanently residing foreigners in Bulgaria, to realize their creative ideas.

The start of the first edition of the “Open” urban exhibition is planned for the beginning of the spring of 2021, with the announcement of an invitation to participate, indicating the specific locations and the necessary documents for applying. Under the program “Outside” the current location of the site “Mausoleum” is preserved, the conditions and the order for application, as well as the procedure for selection of the projects, will be as in its first edition.
