Radko Murzov is an emblematic figure in the artistic life of Varna. For more than 45 years he has run a children’s school of fine arts of international fame. The School of Fine Arts was established in 1971 in Varna. From its beginning until now, the leader is the famous Bulgarian artist Radko Murzov. About 2,800 children have been educated in the last 40 years. Forty professional artists have started their first steps in this school of painting. For his contribution as an artist and pedagogue in 2016, Radko Murzov was named an honorary citizen of Varna.

A retrospective exhibition of Radko Murzov opens on July 1 in the UBA gallery – “Shipka” 6, floor 2. The exhibition can be seen until July 30, 2021.

“Radko Murzov’s art is complex and rich in spectrum. His paintings are in different genres of easel art – portrait, figural composition with historical-heroic and labor themes, with scenes from everyday life, with associative compositions of poetic-metaphorical nature, still lifes, landscapes, etc. They are performed with different techniques of painting – with oil paints, acrylic, using plastic primers and classical techniques of painting, cycling, layering, etc. A large part of his work have drawings with charcoal, pencil, colored pastels, watercolors and graphics in combined printing techniques – offset and digital media.

The works of Radko Murzov in their multi-layeredness reveal to us human meaningful dimensions of reality. They are those fabulous islands of reason and beauty hidden in colors, on which we stand so that we can orient ourselves in the problems and in the dynamics of our life existence “, says for the artist Plamena Dimitrova-Racheva, art critic.

Radko Murzov was born in Karnobat. Graduated in Russian philology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. Following his creative impulse, he graduated with honors and painting at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia. Works in the field of easel painting, drawing, graphics and decorative and monumental arts. Since 1976 he has been a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. He has over 30 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria, Germany and Greece, as well as participation in group exhibitions in Germany, France, Algeria, Macedonia, Japan, Russia.

In 2019 in GHG – Varna Radko Murzov celebrates his 80th birthday with the exhibition “The Road”. He is the author of the poetry and art collection “Pulsations” edited by Nedyalko Yordanov. He is the winner of the Varna Award in the field of culture.

His works are owned by the national gallery and galleries in the country, as well as collectors from many countries around the world. He lives and works in Varna.
