The Book Center and the Department of Art History and Cultural History present “The Bulgarian Perspective on Art Culture Beyond the Iron Curtain in the 1960s: The View of France” by Prof. Irina Genova on May 20, 2021 at 4 pm on Zoom.

The moderator of the event is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oksana Minaeva with discussants Prof. Petya Alexandrova, Ph.D. and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boyan Manchev.

The monograph examines the view of the French art scene from Bulgaria in the 1960s. The cultural dynamics of the decade are expressed through specific cases. Participations in international art forums, exchange of exhibitions, examples from the visual culture of everyday life are discussed.

The study is evolving towards multiplicity: we can add more to the cases considered. It is impossible to distinguish the view of France strictly from the view of the West, as well as from the contacts with other countries east of the Iron Curtain. This multiplicity is a difficulty, but also a chance for a broader horizon of today’s understanding.

The event will be held in ZOOM, Meeting ID: 899 2926 1236, Passcode: 729299
