Oscars 2021 — Complete List of Winners

Spread the love

A few hours ago, the American Academy of Theater and Film Arts presented its Oscars for the 93rd time.

Unfortunately for many Bulgarians, Maria Bakalova did not get the coveted statuette — it went to Yun Yo Jong for Minari, but to use a cliché, which is completely true in this case, just getting a nomination is a huge success for the young actress.

The best film award (expected and fully deserved) went to Nomadland by Chloe Zhao, which in turn won the award for best director – the second woman (after Catherine Bigalow), who won this prize in the almost 100-year history of the Academy. Nomadland, which can be seen on the big screen in Bulgarian theaters since last weekend, was also honored in the category of “Best Actress” for the performance of Francis McDormand.

The award for best male role went to Sir Anthony Hopkins’ great performance in The Father – he won over the alleged favorite Chadwick Boseman for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Daniel Kaluya was awarded for supporting male role for Judas and the Black Messiah.

The statuettes for best original and adapted screenplay went to Emerald Fennel for Promising Young Woman and Florian Zeller for The Father.

Our favorite Another Round by Thomas Vinterberg won the Oscar for Best International Film, and Soul won for Best Animated Film, it also won in the category for Best Film Music by John Batiste. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. We note that at the moment both Another Round and Soul can be watched on the big screen in Bulgaria.

Erik Messerschmidt for Mank and Mikel EG Nielsen for Sound of Metal were awarded for cinematography and editing. The two films also received another statuette, respectively for scenography and sound.
