The Caricature Section of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the National Palace of Culture present the 46th National Caricature Exhibition, which will be held between 15 and 30 July 2021 in the West Lobby of the National Palace of Culture.
The exhibition is an annual event loved by the public – a review of the achievements of contemporary Bulgarian artists working in the field of caricature. The National Palace of Culture is the traditional host of the event, and this year it is part of the initiatives on the occasion of 40 years since its establishment.
The idea of the exhibition is above all to provoke and entertain its spectators. It aims to stimulate the development of the art of caricature in Bulgaria, as well as to contribute to the promotion of the work of Bulgarian cartoonists, who this year were awarded a number of prizes in the country and abroad.
The exhibition presents works by more than 30 contemporary Bulgarian authors, created from April 1, 2020 to the present day. In addition to caricatures and cartoons of celebrities, the exhibition can see satirical drawings, digital graphics, paintings.
The topics, as always, are diverse, with a predominant interest in political satire, the pandemic and the crisis as the main “inspiration”, but there are also works on football and erotic themes.
A jury consisting of: Stoyan Dechev, Valeri Alexandrov – Valeks, Dilyana Nikolova, Lyubomir Mihailov, Svetlin Stefanov, will determine the awards of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the Cartoon Section, as well as the authoritative award of Sofia Municipality, established in memory of the great Bulgarian artist Donyo Donev.
