Kinomania Film Festival Comes with World Premieres and Esteemed Classics

This year’s special edition of Kinomania will take place between April 8 and 22, 2021. The film Fear directed by Ivaylo Hristov, produced by PRO FILM, in co-production with Transformers / Sonus / Kinolight / Revo Films, gave start on April 8 in Hall 1. and with the support of NFC, and the program includes new films from the last two years, not shown so far in Bulgaria, Bulgarian cinema, French films, esteemed classics and others.

The film festival will present 34 titles this year, including Woody Allen’s new latest Rifkin’s Festival, Almodovar’s The Human Voice, Konchalovsky’s Dear Comrades, and the spy thriller with Benedict Cumberbatch, The Courier. And also a film about the life of Celine Dion. The selection also includes the Oscar favorite Nomadland with Francis McDormand.

In addition to the retrospective of the great Federico Fellini, the program also includes six films starring Michel Piccoli, as a focus at the French Film Festival, as well as a film in memory of Sean Connery.

Exclusively in the selection of Kinomania is the premiere of The Bare Truth of the Band Zhiguli —  the new film by Viktor Bozhinov, produced by Concept Studio.

One of the festival’s main highlights will be the exclusive screening of The Khan and the Empire, the digitally restored version by Doli Media Studio” of the legendary trilogy Khan Asparuh, with which the National Palace of Culture celebrates 40 years since its inception.

A special event of Kinomania is also an evening with the lyrics, music and roles of Stefan Valdobrev, entitled My passion for cinema.

Among the premiere Bulgarian proposals in this year’s edition are the films Scenes from the Life of an Actress by director Ivan Vladimirov, produced by GALA FILM, in co-production with BNT, with the support of NFC, and The Short Stick by director Dimitar Petkov, produced of ARS DIGITAL STUDIO with the support of NFC.

Scenes from the life of an actress meets the Sofia audience, after receiving a huge recognition – 3 awards “Golden Rose” – Special Jury Award, for directing and screenwriting, as well as a special jury award from the festival of cinematography the GoldenEye. The premiere date is changed to April 19 at the Lumiere cinema, and all tickets purchased so far are valid without revalidation.

For the first time, Kinomania will show films shot through virtual reality, which can be seen in Hall 4 of the National Palace of Culture. Among them is Oscar-nominated Blind Vaysha by Teodor Ushev.

The films from Kinomania will be screened in Hall 1, Hall 4, as well as in the cinemas: Lumiere, Odeon, Vlaykova, Cinema House, Euro Cinema, G-8 Cinema, as well as at the French Institute.
