The creative tandem Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov won a new prestigious award at an international festival.
They received the big prize, Crystal Globe, at the Karlovy Vary Czech Film Festival for their film The Father, the Associated Press reported. Bulgarian-Greek productions won over 177 selected films.
The Father tells the story of a man who tries to cope with the loss of his deceased wife by trying to connect with her with the help of a psychic despite his son’s disagreement.
This is another recognition for Grozeva and Vulchanov, who became known to the public in Bulgaria and abroad in 2014 with Lesson, followed two years later by the movie Glory, the National Radio commented.
American actresses Julianne Moore and Patricia Clarkson were honored for their “Outstanding Merit to World Cinema” at the 54th edition of the Karlovy Vary Festival. It is held annually in July and has established its position as the most important cinema festival in Central and Eastern Europe. This year, 177 films were included in the competition, and more than 139,000 tickets were sold for the screenings.
