The coronavirus pandemic has a severe impact on the event calendar of many cultural organizations in the country, that is not the case for the Biennale of Illustration which returns for its second edition in an attempt to offer an escape – albeit short-lived – from our fears and grievances in these difficult times.
The exhibition is available from November 17 to mid-January 2021 in the “Triangular Tower of Serdika” affiliated with the Regional History Museum – Sofia and includes illustrations by 194 Bulgarian authors from the country and abroad, selected from over 600 works by a jury consisting of Nikoleta Gologanova, Radostina Nikolova, Stoyan Atanasov and Milena Radeva.
Admission is free.
“We are proud that this year we managed to organize the Bienniale of Illustration thanks to all colleagues and partners who supported us. Despite the lack of funding and the uncertainty we have to live with, there is a great desire for this event to happen and once again illustrate the creativity and mastery of Bulgarian illustrators, regardless of their age and years of experience, their professional field, technique and style, ”Said Dr. Milena Radeva, creator of the site Bulgarian Illustration. “This edition enjoys great interest, with twice as many artists participating with twice as many works, and the topics are so diverse that each visitor will find their own piece of peace and, hopefully, hope and inspiration.”
During the official opening of the exhibition on Tuesday, November 17, at 18:00, three authors will be awarded in the categories “Completed work”, “Uncompleted work” and “Career work”. Visitors will be able to purchase a catalog with exhibition illustrations from all participants that bring color to their daily lives.
