Without being enslaved to the fatalism associated with the number 13, and driven by the desire for the thirteenth time to present to the audience in the Czech Republic the achievements of contemporary Bulgarian cinema, the team of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute organized the 13th edition of the Bulgarian Film Festival. The unusual situation related to the covid pandemic has expanded the opportunities for popularization of our native cinema among the lovers of the seventh art. From the 22nd to the 26th of April 2021 through the online platform DAFilms.cz for the second consecutive year the festival will visit the homes of everyone living in the Czech Republic, regardless of whether they are in Prague, Liberec, Cheb, Ceske Budejovice or Opava. Fans of quality cinema will watch five noteworthy contemporary Bulgarian films with a choice of Czech or English subtitles – Reunion, Yatagan, Wildlings, Bubblegum and Letters from Antarctica. Titles that will enrich the viewers and bring to their homes film adventures, a portion of fun and joy that we need in those that have put all our times to the test.

Over the years, famous Bulgarian directors, actors, screenwriters, cameramen and producers have been guests at the festival in Prague. The coronavirus epidemic disrupted traditional live meetings with the film crews of the program, but the Bulgarian Cultural Institute again found a way to meet the audience with the authors of the festival films. On the eve of the 13th Festival of Bulgarian Cinema and during its broadcast, viewers will see video messages and greetings shot by popular and beloved figures of Bulgarian film art, characters from this year’s program.

Organizers of the 13th Bulgarian Film Festival are the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Cultural Institute, in partnership with the DAFilms.cz platform.
